Collaborating with Communities
Brian O'Neill Exhibits A Desert Transect, Cincinnati Art Book Fair, CU Small Press Fest, and Blurred Horizons
At Immaterial Books, the most rewarding part of our experience is getting our projects out into the world and into our communities.
This past weekend, Immaterial Books Assistant Curator and Editor Brian O’Neill exhibited the work from his most recent Immaterial Books project A Desert Transect (featured this summer in The New York Times). The project followed on from the work Brian completed as part of one of the early Immaterial Books releases: Beach Boulevard. A Desert Transect unpacks questions about mobility and urbanism in Phoenix, Arizona, and so, partnering with the Alliance Française of Greater Phoenix for this show was a perfect opportunity.

And this is just one of many things we have been hard at work on here. While we always have new book and zine projects in the works, we have been attending a number of events. In just a few short days, we will be at the Cincinnati Art Book Fair, and earlier this summer, we tabled at Printed Matter Los Angeles. And, on October 11, come by and see us at the Champaign-Urbana Small Press Fest, where we will be showing new work, like Ciel Baptiste’s En Plein Air.
Following the success of the Fields of Vision exhibit in Urbana, IL last October, we are curating Blurred Horizons to bring together a new set of work from diverse photographers and artists concerning contemporary Illinois. We are open to submissions until September 21, with the opening of the show happening on November 14, 2025.

That’s all for now and thank you for your support! Without our readers and collaborators, we wouldn’t be able to bring these projects to you and into our communities.
P.S. don’t forget about our podcast, Immaterial Voices, the latest episode is with photographer
